Phone compatibility for EpiMonitor

You can check if your device is compatible with EmbracePlus and EpiMonitor, even before purchasing the bundle. To do so, you can perform this quick test below:

  1. Download the EpiMonitor App from the respective app store (iOS or Android) and open it on your smartphone.
  2. Within the app, locate and tap on the ‘Start compatibility check’ button to initiate the compatibility check process.                Tap to start.png
  3. If you are using an Android device and your Bluetooth is turned off, you'll receive a prompt to enable it. Select the ‘Turn on Bluetooth’ button to proceed. The system will automatically analyze your smartphone to determine if it meets all the necessary requirements for compatibility with EmbracePlus and the EpiMonitor App.

  4. If your smartphone does not meet the compatibility requirements, you will receive a notification screen indicating the issue. You can tap on the ‘View certified phones’ button to explore a list of smartphones that have been tested and certified for use with EpiMonitor.

  5. If your device is compatible, you will see a confirmation screen indicating compatibility. Click on the ‘Continue' button to proceed to the login page and access the EpiMonitor App.

We highly recommend waiting until after purchasing the device before creating an account to ensure a seamless setup process.

 

Requirements for compatibility

To ensure full compatibility with the EmbracePlus device (the wearable device used with EpiMonitor), you need to make sure that your smartphone has the following requirements:

  • Bluetooth® 5.0 or higher and BTLE (2M PHY) compatible
  • iOS:
    • iPhone 8 or higher with iOS 15, 16, or 17
  • Android:
    • Versions 12, 12.1, 13, or 14 as released by Google

Please note: Due to the many variations between how different Android device manufacturers customize their version of the operating system and handle the technologies used in our products and services, unfortunately, we are unable to provide a comprehensive list of compatible phone models or guarantee compatibility with all devices that meet the above requirements.
In the compatibility page above you can find a list of certified devices that the Empatica Team tested and confirmed full compatibility with.

Differences between iOS and Android devices

On iOS devices, owning an iPhone 8 or higher guarantees full compatibility. On the other hand, Android devices have customized operating systems between different device manufacturers. The technologies used in our products and services can be handled differently by these variations. It is possible that some Android devices, despite listing Bluetooth 5 or higher, might still not be compatible.

The next section will explain how to check the compatibility of EpiMonitor with Android devices.

 

Compatibility with other devices or platforms

At this time EpiMonitor is not compatible with other platforms such as Windows phone or Amazon FireOS.

Smartphones with a branded version of the Android operating system without the Google Play Store installed on their phone, might not be able to download the EpiMonitor app.

It is not suggested to use EpiMonitor with tablets as EpiMonitor has been optimized for use on iOS and Android smartphones.
