How the Alerting System works with EpiMonitor

The Alerting System in the EpiMonitor medical system is designed to provide timely notifications during potential generalized tonic-clonic seizures. When a seizure is detected, the system sends alerts to our app installed on a dedicated smartphone, which then notifies caregivers via calls and SMS with the user’s location*.

How does the system work?

  1. Our medical wearable, EmbracePlus, can automatically detect possible generalized tonic-clonic seizures that last longer than 20 seconds. When a possible seizure is detected, EmbracePlus will trigger an alert via Bluetooth to the user’s dedicated smartphone.
  2. The EpiMonitor App installed on the user’s smartphone will automatically prompt the alerting system to send alert calls and SMS to your activated caregivers using the phone’s internet connection.
  3. Caregivers will then receive the alert calls and SMS with the user’s location* on their own phones. They may reach out to the user and provide assistance if needed.

* Location feature depends on your chosen subscription plan.

What do I need for EpiMonitor to work?

The EpiMonitor system is easy to set up. Make sure you have the following to ensure that the system works seamlessly:

Bluetooth Connectivity

Bluetooth is used to communicate between EmbracePlus and the EpiMonitor App. The user’s paired smartphone must always stay close to EmbracePlus (within 15 feet/5 meters) and be within a clear range of sight (no obstructions such as walls, doors, etc.).

Internet connectivity

An internet connection is required to send the detected seizure event to our servers and activate the alert calls and SMS.

The subscription is required to enable seizure detection and alerting features.

A range of additional monitoring features is also available, including access to seizure, sleep, and activity diaries, providing valuable insights to help track and understand health trends.

Both Bluetooth and an internet connection are necessary for the alerts to be sent when EmbracePlus detects a possible tonic-clonic seizure. Please take care when activating the Airplane Mode of your phone, as it may disable Bluetooth and the internet connection.

What do Caregivers need for EpiMonitor to work?

Caregivers only need a cellular phone number with regular network service. A landline number can also be used, but note that caregivers with a landline will only receive alert calls and cannot receive SMS messages.
