These settings let you adjust the algorithm's sensitivity based on your daily activities and customize alert thresholds, reducing false alerts when you're more active and increasing sensitivity during inactive periods, such as rest or sleeping. In this guide, we will explore each setting's purpose, functionality, and the best scenarios for their use, helping you optimize EpiMonitor for your specific needs.
To adjust this setting, select the "Sensing Precision" option from the EpiMonitor main screen.
At this point, you will be able to select the sensing precision that best suits your needs:
High This is the default setting and is recommended for periods of inactivity when even smaller repetitive movements might be considered as possible seizures. |
Low Recommended for mild activity in daily living. This setting has a lower sensitivity, which means that the device might be less prone to false alerts, but it is not suggested to use during periods of inactivity. |
Off If you're spending quality time with your Caregivers and don't need the seizure detection system, you can choose to turn it off. By selecting this option seizures won’t be detected and alerts won’t be sent, so please make sure you're in a controlled environment during these times. |
The High sensitivity algorithm is highly responsive to repetitive movements, which may result in false alarms during activities like brushing teeth or driving on a bumpy road. Therefore, high sensitivity should be used with caution. Low sensitivity is recommended only for low-intensity activities.
When you select the Low or Off setting, you can also choose how long this setting will stay enabled.
You can select between 30min, 4h, 8h or 12h. After this time, the sensitivity will automatically go back to High. At the moment, it is not possible to extend this period to ensure your safety.
By understanding and using the different sensing precision settings on your EpiMonitor, you can ensure that your seizure monitoring is both reliable and suited to your needs. Adjusting these settings based on your activities and environment will help maintain the device's optimal performance and safety. Remember to review and update your settings regularly for the best results.
