Embrace helps you track part of your physical activity by detecting when you walk, run, or engage in some types of sport. The app can provide you with statistics about your day's movement.
For now, Embrace can recognize three different types of activity: running, walking, and sport.
Why is tracking physical activity important in epilepsy?
Being active has its own health benefits, improving a person’s overall fitness and helping in stress relief. Literature shows that for some people, overall well-being can help reduce seizure frequency . While physical activity can help a person feel good, a lack of it on the other hand, can be linked to increased depression and anxiety [2,3].
The Mate App can help you keep track of how much you move, along with automatic activity recognition and additional stats.
IMPORTANT: The app is not intended to make any diagnostic or treatment recommendations based on activity tracking, but instead, it can give you insights on your overall physical activity.
A day reflected on the Mate App
You can get insight into your daily physical activity, and measure your progress to move more, keep fit, compare your activity levels, or simply get a sense of your overall activity.
The graph shows the intensity of your movement throughout the entire day, the height of the green bar indicates the intensity of the activity. The higher the bar, the more intense the activity. Intensity increases as the amount and duration of movement increases.
Under the graph, you will find a horizontal timeline summary of your rest periods and detected or manually logged seizures.
Movement time is the sum of the active intervals spent moving. It also takes into account daily life activities where you were particularly active like house cleaning or office movement.
Distance is an estimation based on your step counts, height, and gender. This may not reflect the exact distance done over the day since it is based only on the movement of your wrist and not GPS tracking.
Steps is the sum of steps taken during the day. It’s calculated continuously both from active and non-active periods.
You will also find a comparison with your average of the previous 7 days next to your daily stats.

The details of your activities are shown in chronological order in this comprehensive look of your activity timeline. Here you will find the start and end times, duration, distance, and number of steps.
Your physical activity is categorized into walk, run, and sport. The minimum amount of active time required for Embrace to detect an activity is as follows:
Walk: minimum duration of 5 minutes
Run: minimum duration of 10 minutes
Sport: minimum duration of 10 minutes (low and high intensity)
