In this article, you will find the instructions to download the correct version of the Care App for your plan.
The Care App is the companion smartphone application to EmbracePlus and EmbraceMini. It is the link between the Empatica Wearable and the Empatica Cloud, securely transmitting the collected raw data and calculated digital biomarkers via the smartphone’s internet connection (cellular or WiFi).
The Care App provides information about the status of the device, the data flow, Wearing time, and some digital biomarkers*.
enterprise plan The availability of digital biomarkers in the Care App and the Care Portal is defined by the study configuration. For further information on which digital biomarkers are visible for your study configuration, talk to your Study team or account manager.
As a first step, please check that the companion smartphone has the following compatibility requirements:
ios
- iOS 18 or higher
android
- Android version 13 or higher as released by Google
- Bluetooth® 5.0 with PHY 2M
PHY 2M capability ensures higher data throughput. Although some devices might have Bluetooth 5.0 in their specs, some devices run non-compliant Bluetooth 5.0 modules, which might disrupt the data transfer flow, constantly losing data. To know which Bluetooth protocol an Android mobile phone supports, we recommend using the Nordic App:
- Install the Nordic App from the Play Store
- Open the main menu and select "Device information"
-
PHY 2M support is reported under the "Bluetooth Low Energy" section
Check our Smartphone Compatibility page for more details, including a list of certified phone models.
If the participant is using their own smartphone, make sure to download the correct app based on your plan:
For a smoother Bluetooth connection, we also recommend connecting the Empatica Wearable to the smartphone without any other Bluetooth-connected devices. With some smartphones, connecting additional Bluetooth devices such as wireless earbuds, Bluetooth speakers, etc., might cause issues with the connection stability between the device and the paired smartphone.
It is also important to make sure the Care App is allowed to run in the background, ensuring continuous data sync throughout the day and preventing issues such as Memory Full.
The Care App asks to grant a battery management exception during pairing; however, some phones might require additional steps.
- Open Settings
- Navigate to Battery
- Make sure "Low Power Mode" is disabled
Setting battery management exceptions may differ across manufacturers. Please check your phone manual for specific instructions.
- Disable any power-saving modes, as these may prevent the use of Bluetooth devices

- Settings > Apps > Care (App info) > Battery > select "Unrestricted"
- Settings > Apps > Care (App info) > Battery usage > enable "Allow Background Activity"
- Lock or pin the Care App in your "Recent apps"
