Setting up Embrace2 for Epilepsy

Setting up your Embrace watch is easy. Before getting started, please make sure your Embrace is charged. Then, follow these steps to get started:

iOS devices:

1. Install an iOS version from 10 to 16 on your smartphone (check your iOS version and how to upgrade it).
2. Download the Alert App or search Empatica Alert in the App Store.
3. Open the Alert App and sign in with your Empatica Account email address and password.
4. Follow the in-app instructions to pair Embrace. Make sure to have the Embrace right next to your smartphone. The pairing should be automatic.

It’s possible that the first attempt may not be successful. If this occurs, please repeat step 4.

Android devices:

1. Install Android version 11, 12, or 13 as released by Google on your smartphone and make sure the device supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE/4.0/Bluetooth Smart)(check your Android version and how to upgrade it).
   Note: Operating System (OS) updates are not always available and may depend on the manufacturer and phone model’s OS update policy.
2. Download the Alert App or search Empatica Alert in the Google Play Store.
3. Configure the phone settings to disable any power-saving features that may affect the Alert App from functioning correctly (these settings can vary depending on the phone model):
   1. Allow the Alert App to run in the background by enabling unrestricted battery access.
      • Settings > Apps > Alert App (App info) > Battery > choose 'Unrestricted' or
      • Settings > Apps > Alert App (App info) > Battery usage > enable 'Allow Background Activity'
   2. Disable any battery optimization features from the phone’s settings.
      • Settings > Battery > toggle OFF any power-saving features or modes
   3. Lock or pin the Alert App in your 'Recent apps'
      • Recent apps > Alert App > Lock app (padlock icon)
   4. Disable any ‘deep sleeping’, ‘sleeping’, ‘doze’ modes, or similar features on the phone.
      • Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > remove Alert App from ‘Sleeping apps’ or
      • Settings > Battery > top-right 3 dots > Battery Optimization > All Apps > find Alert App > select 'Don't Optimize'
4. Open the Alert App and sign in with your Empatica Account email address and password.
5. Follow the in-app instructions to pair your Embrace watch.
6. If you’re prompted to enter a pin, insert 123456.
7. Activate location services on your Android smartphone when pairing the Embrace.
   Note: Location services are required to be enabled in order for Bluetooth to work. Empatica does not track your location information.

Some Android devices may require manual pairing. This video will guide you through this process or you can follow the steps below:

1. Your Android device shows ‘Searching your Embrace’.
2. When the serial number of your Embrace appears, tap on it to accept the request to pair.
3. Important: Check your Android notification bar for the pairing request. On some Android devices, there will be no pairing notification, while others will show a pop-up.
4. Enter the PIN code 123456.
5. Your Android device and Embrace are now paired.

Note: Make sure your Embrace watch is right next to your smartphone and that Bluetooth and Internet connection are on.

Once you pair your Embrace watch for the first time, you’ll start 30 days of free trial of the Plus subscription plan. 

Please note that since the free trial is set to the Plus plan, your subscription will also auto-renew with the Plus. We recommend that you switch to your preferred plan before the trial ends. You will also receive a notification from us that prompts you to select the plan that best suits your needs prior the expiration. 

How to wear Embrace

It should fit snugly above the wrist joint.

• Loosen the band by sliding the buckle towards the Embrace watch face.
• Wear the Embrace on the dominant wrist. (More info: Which wrist should I wear Embrace on?)
• Tap the surface of the Embrace watch once to see the current time.
• The Embrace should fit snugly so that the three sensors on the bottom remain in constant contact with the skin. Adjust the tightness of the band to ensure that the Embrace is comfortable and does not shift in position on the arm during movement.
