To ensure accurate seizure detection, it is important to wear the EmbracePlus correctly. Don’t worry; we’ll be happy to help you with this!
Arm selection
We recommend consulting your doctor on this question. Motion detection is among the dominant characteristics of our algorithm, so we recommend wearing EmbracePlus on the wrist that generates the most movement during seizures.
If both arms manifest equal movement during your convulsive seizures, then we recommend wearing it on your non-dominant wrist to reduce false alerts. Together with adjusting the sensing precision depending on your planned activities (available only for Standard or Plus tiers)
Positioning
- The EmbracePlus should be worn like a watch with the display facing upwards, about an index finger’s width from the wrist bone.
- It should fit snugly on your wrist so that the device does not move.
- A good fit is indicated by faint imprints from the band's holes on your skin. These imprints should be barely visible. If the imprints are not visible at all, the device may be too loose. On the other hand, if the imprints are deeply marked and reddish, the device might be too tight, causing discomfort and restricting blood flow.
- The sensors on the bottom should always remain in contact with the skin.
Do not wear EmbracePlus in case of the following scenarios:
- On injured skin or other types of skin diseases located in the area where EmbracePlus is worn. Wear EmbracePlus only on the surface of healthy skin.
- Over a tattoo, as it may affect the reliability of data collection for the forecasting study (applicable only if you are participating in the seizure forecasting study)
- When EmbracePlus appears to be damaged.
- In case of skin irritation after prolonged use:
- Make sure to clean EmbracePlus regularly to avoid further irritation. For people with extra sensitive skin, a daily cleaning routine might work better to prevent any bacteria from building up.
- Consult your doctor about the reaction to check if EmbracePlus is biocompatible for you.
- If the skin becomes red, itchy, or if any pain is felt for more than 2-3 days even after cleaning, it is recommended to discontinue use. You can find more information about our 30-day return policy here.
Use with water
EmbracePlus is waterproof, and can be worn during exercise and while taking a shower.
However, please do not wear EmbracePlus while swimming in saltwater or using a hot tub, sauna, or steam room. Also, do not submerge EmbracePlus in water that is deeper than 3.3 feet/1 meter for longer than 30 minutes.
What happens to EmbracePlus underwater?
Be aware that the Bluetooth connectivity will not work if EmbracePlus is submerged in water, and therefore, Alerts will not be sent to caregivers even if it detects a possible seizure event.
