Can I use the Research Portal for non-epilepsy research?

Yes. Empatica is a recognized leader in the field of epilepsy, but we have now adapted our infrastructure and products from the epilepsy market to also support the advancement of research in other areas.

Embrace2’s sensors measure the following physiological parameters:

  • Electrodermal Activity: (EDA, also known as skin conductance) - measures variations of the electrical conductance of the skin. EDA is a measure of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) arousal and reflects strong emotional states such as fear, anxiety, anger, and positive excitement.
  • Motion: measured by a 3-axis accelerometer.
  • Skin surface temperature: measured by a Peripheral Temperature Sensor.

Beyond sensor data, Embrace2 also monitors rest, physical activity, autonomic nervous system arousal, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS). You can read more about what Embrace monitors here: What Embrace2 monitors
