If you live in the United Kingdom, you may be eligible to use EpiMonitor without paying Value Added Tax (VAT).
In the UK, VAT is 20%. Users who confirm they have epilepsy can qualify for a VAT exemption under UK medical device regulations.
This exemption applies only to eligible users and is not applied retroactively (if you have already purchased the subscription).
All subscription plans are non-refundable.
Who is eligible for VAT exemption
You are eligible for VAT exemption if:
- You live in the United Kingdom.
- You confirm that you have epilepsy.
- The device is for personal medical use.
How to declare VAT exemption
You can declare VAT exemption in three ways:
- When you set up your EpiMonitor account. VAT will be already deducted during the subscription purchase.
- After setting up your EpiMonitor account, in the Account settings.
- During the subscription purchase.
- Click “Please confirm in your settings” to open your Account settings, where you can declare whether the EpiMonitor user has Epilepsy or No condition.
VAT will be deducted at checkout.
The prices shown do not include VAT. It will be added at checkout if you did not indicate that the user has epilepsy.
When you confirm that you have epilepsy:
- A VAT exemption form is automatically completed using your account details.
- The declaration is securely stored by Empatica.
- The declaration may be shared with UK tax authorities only upon their request.
What happens after you declare VAT exemption
Once your declaration is completed:

- Providing false information may result in VAT being charged later.
- VAT exemption rules are defined by UK law and may change.
