EmbracePlus for EpiMonitor - Battery: Duration, Lifecycle, and Charging instructions

This guide will provide you with information on the battery performance of EmbracePlus when being used with EpiMonitor, including its expected duration, overall lifespan, and important low-battery alerts. You'll also find instructions on how to properly charge the device.

EmbracePlus battery

   1. Expected battery duration

The expected battery duration of EmbracePlus is up to 7 days after a full charge. If you are part of the Seizure Forecasting Study, the expected battery duration is reduced. For more details, please visit Seizure Forecasting Study.

   2. Expected battery life

EmbracePlus has a Lithium-ion battery and has an estimated life of 2 years, or up to ~500 charging cycles. We ensure high battery performance for up to 2 years, but the battery should continue to work well after. You may notice that after 500 charging cycles, the battery life may degrade over time as a result of normal usage. Please note that the battery is non-replaceable due to the device’s mechanism.

Battery level notifications

Low battery - ‘Charge soon’ status
When the EmbracePlus battery level is between 13% (approximately one day of battery life remaining) and 8% (approximately half a day of battery life remaining), you will receive a notification on both the EmbracePlus display and the EpiMonitor app. The app will show a ‘Charge soon’ status, and the EmbracePlus display will show a low battery icon.

When the EmbracePlus battery level is critical - below 8%, a "low" message will appear on the display and the EpiMonitor app will show a ‘Charge Now’ status. The message on the display can be dismissed by placing EmbracePlus on the charger or pressing one of the side buttons. Please charge the device as quickly as possible since it will run out of battery and switch off soon.

Out of battery

When completely out of battery, EmbracePlus will turn off. The background of the display will turn dark and an empty battery icon will be displayed. The EpiMonitor App will show a ‘Battery: not detectable’ status. At this point, the device will be disconnected from the phone, and seizure detection will not be available. To turn it back on, you need to charge EmbracePlus using the provided cable charger.

Charging EmbracePlus

6a22dce3-4758-4d89-b531-33e38e4fbac4.png   EmbracePlus comes with a unique cable charger included in the box.

Please follow these simple steps to charge EmbracePlus:

Plug the cable charger into a standard 5V USB 2.0 power source.

The cable charger and EmbracePlus will automatically attach through magnets. Make sure the display and side buttons are visible while you slide EmbracePlus into the cable charger. You will feel a slight pull and EmbracePlus will snap into place. If the position is incorrect, the battery percentage will not appear on the screen. In this case, gently wiggle the watch until it aligns correctly and the battery percentage is displayed.

Once the charging starts, the display background will turn dark and will show the current charge level. A full charge takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

EmbracePlus is fully charged when you see ‘100’ on the display. Gently remove EmbracePlus by holding the charger body in place and sliding out the device.

The EmbracePlus display will show a dark background for about 10 seconds. Once the display background turns light and the time is shown, EmbracePlus is up and running and ready to be used.
When taking the device off the charger, it's recommended to keep your phone nearby. This helps reduce the number of potential errors, vibrations, or other issues, once the charging is complete.
